Dr. Andrea Saposnik
Founder & Master Teacher
Andrea Saposnik has 25 years of experience teaching voice to children, teens, and adults. She opened her private voice studio in 2003, and in addition to her current position on faculty at Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, NY, she has also taught singing at the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Italy, Greenwich House Music School in New York City, Broadway Training Center in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, and at the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
In addition to classical singing, Andrea has studied vocal anatomy, physiology, and contemporary styles, such as Broadway and pop, intensively. She holds a Doctorate in Voice from the CUNY Graduate Center, a Master’s in Voice from Yale University, a Bachelor’s in Voice from Oberlin Conservatory, and a Bachelor’s in English from Oberlin College. Andrea also earned certificates from Justin Stoney’s Voice Teacher Training program; Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s Vocal Pedagogy Program; and Shenandoah University’s Somatic Voicework™ (Contemporary Commercial Music) Institute.
Andrea has performed extensively in opera, oratorio, musical theater, and recitals, and has recorded for the Sony and Naxos Labels. Her recent performances include Respighi’s “Il Tramonto” with string quartet in Arcidosso, Italy, and numerous solo appearances with the Long Island Choral Society, where she has also served as Artist-in-Residence. She has been a fellow at the Ravinia Festival and the Bach Aria Festival, and has been a frequent collaborator with members of the Bach Aria Group. Andrea is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), New York Singing Teachers’ Association, The Voice Foundation, and the American Guild of Musical Artists. Andrea also performs with classical guitarist Andrew Marino as Duo Voxara. She is also a certified yoga instructor.
Andrea values a healthy, embodied, and natural approach to all aspects of life. As a teacher, she aims to cultivate each student’s individual wishes and strengths, nurturing singers of all ages and levels on their vocal and musical journeys.
A native of Atlanta, Andrea began teaching and singing as an undergraduate at Oberlin. She opened her private voice studio in 2003, after completing her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Voice Performance at Yale and CUNY. In addition to her background in classical music, Dr. Saposnik brings extensive studies in popular styles such as Broadway and pop to her work with students.
As a professional mezzo-soprano, Andrea has performed in musicals, operas, oratorios, recitals, and recordings in the U.S. and Europe. She has a working knowledge of French, German, and Italian; she is an accomplished pianist; and she also teaches music theory, sight-singing, and solfege.
Dr. Saposnik became a certified yoga instructor in 2022; she applies this knowledge in her vocal studio, using stretching, posture, relaxation, and breathing techniques to help each student realize their fullest potential.
Andrea is an avid hiker and a dedicated advocate for animals. She also loves baking, reading, and walking with her rescue dog, Romeo.
